2. Scripts

What are scripts?

As scripts can do variety of tasks for variety of use cases, it's hard to define them as one single thing. In essence, scripts perform some type of calculations based on charts of financial instruments, such as:

  • Calculate average, median or standard deviation values

  • Filter data

  • Highlight data/events

  • Provide assisting visuals

  • Backtest strategies

What scripts are/are not good for?

Generally speaking, the main benefit of scripts is their ability to convert somewhat vague and subjective concepts into mechanically defined concepts. This allows wide range of benefits, such as:

  • Automating tasks by setting alerts

  • Deriving data from technical evidence, such as historical performance (backtesting)

  • Minimizing subjective and emotion driven decision making

No script will substitute having a sound trading strategy, but can help in constructing and validating them.

I got access to 2 scripts, what's the one with (Internal) on it?
